North Korea has one of the worst human rights records in the world. In a country
in which those who speak out are severely punished, the information the world
hears far from reflects the true gravity of the situation. Citizens must give
unswerving obedience to the ‘Great Leader’ , Kim Il-Sung, and those who dissent
come up against a ruthless detention and imprisonment system. This, coupled with
the chronic food shortages, force many to flee the country, despite the grave perils
which face them if caught.
